Orientation, depth and the changing season are the beginning of a glazing design, not its final checks.
Northern light is rarely static. It changes in direction, softness and duration, asking architecture to respond across the year rather than to a single photograph. The position of a window matters as much as its size.
Start with the activities within the room. A broad view can be valuable in a living space, while a smaller, carefully placed opening can make a study feel focused. Deep reveals and adjacent surfaces influence how light travels and how bright the glass appears.
Consider shading and ventilation alongside the elevation. Overhangs, blinds and opening elements should be part of the first drawings. The most successful glass detail is one that supports daily life quietly, in every season.
